HERITAGE
James Edgar Murdock was drawn to South Africa from England in 1896.
James Edgar Murdock brought his passion for fine jewellery and watches to found one of the first recognised jewellery businesses in Cape Town. In 1897 Murdock’s Watchmakers and Jewellers opened its doors to an intimate store situated on the corner of Parliament and Longmarket Street in the heart of Cape Town.
The standard of service and expertise through the years, attracted an eminent clientele including recognised historical figures; Cecil John Rhodes, King George and Queen Frederika of Greece. History shows Cecil John Rhodes had declined to alight from his vehicle in order to make the short journey into the shop, but rather insisted that the jewellery and experts come to him.
